- The most important part of any videotape is the black magnetic material
- Videotape cassettes can endure a great deal of heat exposure before being damaged beyond repair, and even we are surprised from time to time to successfully restore a tape or a melted mass of many tapes lumped together that looked hopeless during the initial assessment. As long as the magnetic material did not reach its melting point there's a very high chance that the footage can be recovered.
- Each tape that has been exposed to fire or heat must be individually assessed
- Unfortunately there are still limits to what can be recoverable and if the mylar surface of a tape gets hot enough it will warp permanently, causing unavoidable interference during playback. That said, even if your cassette looks terrible we still recommend that you send it in; if it can't be repaired and restored there will not be any charge to you.
- $69.50 per tape repaired for fire or heat exposure damage

- The repair process for tapes that have been exposed to fire or heat is slow and gentle in order to increase the chances that footage can be recovered; working with tapes in batches allows us to be more efficient. If you send in 5 - 9 fire-damaged tapes we can offer 10% off of the repairs and if you send in 10 tapes or more in a batch we can take 20% off of the repair costs. When you place an order you will see a prompt that will ask if you will be sending more than one tape and the discounted price will be reflected in the automated quote you receive.
