It happens, you're not alone
We've seen soda, wax, insect infestations, peanut butter, clay and much, much more. We've noticed that people are sometimes embarrassed about this kind of damage when they contact us but accidents (and children) happen; we won't be surprised by your circumstances.

Whether or not your footage can be salvaged will depend on what the tape was exposed to
Whether or not a videotape that has been exposed to a foreign substance can be salvaged depends on if the substance reacts with the magnetic layer of the tape where the footage/data is stored. If the substance is neutral it can be cleaned off the tape's surface without damage to the footage, but some substances have chemical compounds which can react with the surface of a tape, resulting in a permanent and unavoidable loss of footage. We cannot determine if a substance can be cleaned up without having seen your tape, but since we do not charge an assessment fee there will not be a charge to you unless your footage can be recovered.

The repair process for tapes that have been exposed to a foreign substance is slow and gentle in order to increase the chances that footage can be recovered; working with tapes in batches allows us to be more efficient. If you send in 5 - 9 tapes that have been exposed to a foreign substance we can offer 10% off of the repairs and if you send in 10 tapes or more in a batch we can take 20% off of the repair costs. When you place an order you will see a prompt that will ask if you will be sending more than one tape and the discounted price will be reflected in the automated quote you receive.
