What we can:

Borderline problems:

What we can't:

Please email us if there your tape has symptoms other than what is discussed above.

VHS, 8mm, Hi8, VHS-C, Digital8, and miniDV tapes
We specialize in the repair of these tapes, and they are the only formats that we work with. This allows us to fix your tape at such a low cost, with our fast turnaround.
Broken or damaged shells
No matter what is wrong with the shell, we can fix it or replace it.
Tangled, snarled, or damaged sections of tape
If portions of the tape are wrinkled or crunched, we will cut them out and splice your tape back together, allowing you to watch the rest of your footage.
Tape that has snapped apart or come off the reel
We will splice it back together or re-attach it, making it stronger than new.
Cassettes that won't play, or get ejected by a VCR
Jammed internal parts usually cause problems of this nature; we will diagnose and repair or replace anything that needs it.
Cassettes that are in pieces
We will put it back together.
Cassettes that are missing pieces
We will replace all the necessary parts.

Tapes that are moldy
All mold-damaged tapes can be cleaned up. However, under extreme circumstances if the problem is bad enough the mold will start to etch the surface of a tape, literally "eating" away the footage and causing permanent interference. Whether your tape can be restored to our standards depends on the extent of the mold, so we'll have to see your video to be certain that it can be fixed.
Flood damaged tapes
It's not the water itself that causes problems, but chemicals and contaminants that are left behind when the water dries. There is a very wide range of damage that can occur from flood conditions, so we cannot be certain if an individual tape can be repaired without having seen it. If you have a large amount of tapes that were damaged at once we recommend sending just one or two as a sample at first; if the test batch can be repaired we will be able to work with the others as well!
Tapes that have been exposed to humidity
As a tape is exposed to humidity and gets wet and dries repeatedly, the thin layer of lubrication on the film's surface deteriorates and becomes glue-like in places. This causes the tape to stick together on the reels and ultimately snap as playback is attempted. Every case of humidity damage is different, and the very extreme cases cannot be repaired when the tape becomes too brittle to work with. We have been able to fix many, many tapes with this kind of damage, but we'll have to see yours before we can know if it can be repaired.

Formats other than VHS, 8mm, Hi8, VHS-C, Digital8, and miniDV
At this time, we do not repair anything besides these formats, i.e. Beta, audiotapes, etc. Specializing in the repair of these video tapes alone allows us to offer our service to you with our fast turnaround and low price.
Tapes that are tangled, snarled, or damaged for large sections
Sections of tape that are crunched or wrinkled cannot be restored and need to be trimmed out in order to save the rest of the movie. If the entire length or large sections of the tape are damaged, we will not be able to do anything with it, since it would make your videotape useless to cut out too much.
Lines that appear on the screen for the length of the film or sound problems
Lines on your screen or muted sound occur when the tape itself has been damaged. If these symptoms occur throughout the movie, it means that too much tape needs to be trimmed out to warrant saving the rest.
Sound is heard, but there is no picture
This most likely signifies that the heads on your VCR need to be cleaned, and is not indicative of a problem with your tape. Try using a head cleaner, we recommend the "wet" kind that uses isopropyl alcohol.
The picture scrolls vertically or there is static on the screen
This is usually because your VCR is trying to or can't adjust the tracking, and does not mean that your tape is damaged. If you still have your VCR manual, try looking to see if there is a way that you can manually adjust the tracking. Many times, the "channel" buttons on your VCR remote double as tracking adjusters. Sometimes you just have to be very, very patient.
Tapes that have been recorded over or erased
We're very sorry, but to the best of our knowledge it is not possible to recover footage that has been recorded over or erased.
