The transfer of standard definition (CRT) technology's footage for viewing on today's HD screens demands careful attention to detail, especially for tapes that have had some amount of physical damage. The capture and conversion process we've developed is not automated; we monitor multiple signals and readings during the capture process to extract the absolute best-possible signal from the technology created in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s. Whether your tape requires physical repair or is still in mechanical working order, we ensure the final digital copy meets our standards and your expectations.

Our shop's workflow is optimized for tape restoration and footage recovery; our playback equipment is constantly in use salvaging damaged media. While we gladly accept tapes that only need digitization, we designed our transfer services primarily as a premium convenience for our repair clients.

To reflect this, we offer an exclusive 40% discount on all transfer services for tapes that have been repaired or remediated by us. There are no hidden fees. Our pricing is completely transparent: every transfer is a flat rate per tape, regardless of length. We will never charge you extra just because your tape holds six hours of footage instead of two.

We know that shipping irreplaceable memories can be stressful. To ensure your complete peace of mind, any footage that has been recovered and captured is securely backed up on our hard drives for four weeks after your order ships. If there is ever an issue with the physical delivery of your items, your footage is perfectly safe and can be provided to you right away.

DVD Transfers

Our DVD transfer service uses the DVD-Video format without copyright protection; you will be able to use your disc in a DVD player or computer, and with the proper software you will be able to "rip" the footage from the disc and store or edit it on a computer's hard drive. We are proud to use Taiyo Yuden DVDs, widely regarded as the best available disc with the longest lifespan.

Data File Conversions

Once your footage has been captured we can convert it to any format (.mp4, MPEG-2, .mov, etc.) as a data file. The best-possible conversion will be made so that you have the highest quality footage- after you receive the data file you will be able to edit, compress, upload to the cloud, and store it however you'd like.

In order to maintain our standards the best delivery method is USB thumb drive or external hard drive so that the data does not need to be compressed with reduced quality; you can send a device with your order or we can provide an appropriately-sized drive for your data and add the cost to your invoice.

Backup Bundle

DVDs and data file conversions have overlapping use cases- discs are easy to pop into a DVD player and data files offer the simplest starting point if you intend to edit your footage or share it online.

No matter what your primary usage for your footage, it's always a good idea to have different backups of it across a variety of storage media. A DVD can be scratched and a thumb drive can be lost so we strongly recommend following the rule of three: if the footage is irreplacable, store it in at least three different ways so that if something happens to one of the formats you still have two others available.

Ordering the Backup Bundle will provide you with both a DVD transfer and a data file conversion of your tape's footage; counting the original tape itself and you've reached three different storage formats and you can also copy over the data file to computer's hard drive or a cloud storage account for a fourth backup version.

Because we do not compromise on quality, our recovered video files are large, often exceeding 5 Gigabytes per hour to preserve every detail of the original source material. While competitors heavily compress footage to make it fit in an email, we provide the uncompressed master file.

(Notes: To guarantee the permanent, lifelong safety of your large archival files, this service is an add-on to our standard USB/Hard Drive delivery. Your physical drive will ship as normal, serving as your permanent physical vault).

For collections exceeding 20 tapes, full cloud delivery for all of the tapes is unavailable due to file size constraints. However, we don't want you to wait! Once your order is complete, we will upload up to 20 "Highlight" tapes of your choosing for instant access while the rest of your collection ships. We will contact you prior to uploading to select your priority tapes.
